RECAP: Saint Louis FC v Swope Park Rangers

Goals were hard to come by as Saint Louis FC earns a point at home against I-70 rival, Swope Park Rangers. With the draw, Saint Louis sits at 7-8-7 (29 points).

A hot August night brought fiery passion from both players and fans. A near-capacity crowd of 4,582 saw lots of action for a Wednesday night game. Saint Louis ended the contest with a total of 16 shots, while visitor Swope Park took 13. It was a battle of the goalkeepers. Mark Pais tallied five saves.

Pais explains, "We knew the front guys were good. It's one of those things where we want to dictate the game and it just didn't happen. We had to adjust and I'm proud that we kept working hard all game."

Swope Park keeps their unbeaten streak intact at four games. Diego Rubio, recently recalled from MLS side, Sporting KC, notched a goal midway through the first half from a ball over the top, and touched it past Pais.

Head Coach Dale Schilly explained, "We started a little slow, but the guys fought hard. It's disappointing we didn't earn three points tonight but I'm very happy with the effort with the play."

The home side countered in the second half thanks to a penalty kick earned by Jordan Roberts as he cut inside the box and was fouled attempting to bring down a cross into the box. Irvin Herrera slotted it past GK Jon Kempin producing the equalizer.

"Everybody has their role, and mine happens to be to score the goals Everybody has confidence in me and I'm so humbled. I go into every game with confidence to do well and make big plays," said Herrera.

Saint Louis FC has the weekend off.  The side will return to action at home on August 13th against Sacramento Republic FC.  Saint Louis FC made the trip west in April and returned 3 points heavier with a 1-0 win. This will be the last meeting in 2016 for the teams.  For ticketing information go to or call 636-680-0997.
