Saint Louis FC vs. Ottawa Fury FC Recap

St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC scored a dramatic late winner to finish 3-2 over Ottawa Fury FC in front of a sell-out 5,566 at Toyota Stadium.


Saint Louis FC scored two in quick succession, the first by Christian Volesky and second from Mats Bjurman. Ottawa pulled one back thanks to Eddie Edward in the first half before leveling the score with a goal from Onua Obasi in the second half. Saint Louis FC walked away with the three points after an own goal from Sergio Manesio just before full-time.


Saint Louis FC started on the front foot and were on the scoresheet in the 5th minute after forward Milan Petosevic found his strike partner Volesky in space and he calmly finished through the Ottawa goalkeeper. STLFC quickly doubled their lead with Volesky turning provider as his wide pass found Mats Bjurman in space on the right and his shot finished in the bottom left corner. Ottawa responded with a goal from Edward who pounced on a loose ball in the six-yard box following a corner situation in the 11th minute. Ottawa came close to leveling the score just before halftime as they hit the post.


STLFC goalkeeper Devala Gorrick was forced to make some smart saves in the second half as Ottawa looked to get back in the game. They would eventually find their equalizer with Obasi finishing through a crowd of players in the 83rd minute. However, Saint Louis would not be denied as substitute Max Alvarez finished a great solo run from Volesky with a shot that went past the keeper and was bundled in by Ottawa defender Manesio to win the game in the 88th minute. Ottawa would end the game with 10 men as Shane McEleney was shown a straight red card for pulling back Alvarez on a clear goal-scoring opportunity in added time.
