Saint Louis FC Bolster Attack for 2017

St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC has agreed to a contract with forward Jose Angulo pending USL and United States Soccer Federation approval.

Jose Angulo was born in Cali, Colombia and grew up in Clifton, New Jersey where he played for the PDA Academy. He attended the prestigious Saint Benedict’s Preparatory School and was named to the Parade Magazine All-American Team two years in a row.

Angulo joined the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer (MLS) straight out of high school in 2008. Angulo spent the 2009 season with the Newark Ironbound Express in the USL Premier Development League (PDL). In 2010, Angulo scored 10 goals in 11 appearances for the Central Jersey Spartans in the USL PDL. He joined the Harrisburg City Islanders in the USL shortly afterwards, making 27 appearances and scoring 9 goals during the 2011 season.

In 2012, Angulo returned to MLS with the New York Red Bulls and made one appearance in a friendly against Tottenham Hotspur. He then joined the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in USL for the 2013 season, making 23 appearances and scoring 15 goals en route to being named the USL Most Valuable Player. Further accolades that season include the USL Golden Boot and USL All-League First Team.

“Jose is another player that we have added to our roster with a track record of scoring goals and creating chances,” said STLFC General Manager Jeremy Alumbaugh. “His experience at all professional levels will bolster our attack in 2017.  Fans and supporters will enjoy his presence in the attacking third and his willingness to work for the team on both sides of the ball.”

After two seasons with the Pittsburg Riverhounds, Angulo moved to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the North American Soccer League (NASL). Over the 2015-2016 seasons, Angulo made 32 appearances, scored 8 goals, and provided 3 assists for the NASL club.

“I'm very excited to be joining Saint Louis FC and playing in the USL again for a great soccer city,” said Angulo. “I’m also looking forward to playing in front of all the passionate fans and large crowds they attract in St. Louis.”
