St. Louis, MO – Saint Louis FC has announced that the MLS affiliation with the Chicago Fire will not be renewed for the 2017 season.
Both clubs held talks in recent weeks to continue a collaborative relationship in other ways, including the potential for player loan deals.
Over the past two years, there have been nine players that have joined Saint Louis FC from the Chicago Fire on long- or short-term loan deals. These players include: Alec Kann (GK), Patrick McLain (GK), Patrick Doody (D), Greg Cochrane (D), Drew Conner (M), Kingsley Bryce (M), Alex Morrell (M), Collin Fernandez (M), and Mike Magee (F).
“Saint Louis FC would like to thank the Chicago Fire for the past two years,” said STLFC General Manager, Jeremy Alumbaugh. “We were able to provide a number of players an opportunity to train and play in a competitive daily environment that has helped them move ahead in their soccer careers. The decision for the Fire and STLFC to head in different directions is simply one of the two clubs outgrowing the affiliation and moving on. We wish the Fire players, staff and front office nothing but the best in 2017 and in the future. We look forward to future opportunities for collaboration with them.”
